About

ASL at Indiana University Bloomington

American Sign Language (ASL) is a visual, non-spoken language that is communicated using manual signs, facial expressions, and body movements. It is the primary language for the Deaf community in the United States and Canada.

Our program provides a series of courses that fulfill both the College of Arts and Sciences foreign language requirement and the General Education World Language requirement. Our students learn to communicate conversationally in ASL while gaining a deeper understanding of Deaf culture and experiences.

Inclusive practices for D/deaf individuals

From working with an ASL interpreter to understanding who uses ASL, our program has created helpful guidelines for ensuring a positive experience for everyone involved.
